Postfix – The Sendmail Replacement

M. Zahn has written a fantastic white paper on the Postfix SMTP server.  The paper describes in detail exactly how Postfix is different from the Sendmail SMTP server and exactly how it operates.  Postfix is described in the article as follows:

Postfix is Wietse Venema’s attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used Sendmail program.  Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough to not upset your users.
