Breaking GSM Encryption

The 26C3 hacker’s conference in Berlin has had quite a bit of press coverage lately.  New research was presented at the conference detailing the theory behind cracking GSM encryption with off the shelf technology.  The presentation demonstrates how GSM encryption, the code used to keep cell phone conversations private, cannot be counted on to keep calls private.  The attack on GSM is feasible and is most likely already in use in various forms.  Refer to the links below for more information and to view / listen to the original presentation from 26C3.
